Who we are

MIC started its first chapter in 2023 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in an effort to prove that everyone can work in the music industry. At the time, UT had a singular music business class and had very few reputable music business alumni.

Since its inception at UT, students have gone on to get internships and full-time jobs at Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music, Big Loud, Country Music Association, and many more.

As we look to expand our chapters, we are focusing on the same mantra. Regardless of the city you live in or the school you go to, you can get a job in the music industry.

OUR MISSION

MIC’s mission is to develop the talent of future leaders in the music industry by providing valuable speaker series, engaging professional development workshops, and career opportunities at colleges across the US. MIC is also supported by the MIC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

OUR VALUES

  • Cultivating Creativity: Creativity is not only vital to a musician’s success, but to every single young professional. Creativity is not just artistic; it is your way of identifying problems within your life, your organization, or your company and finding innovative ways to solve them.

  • Fostering Self-Improvement: We want you to constantly be improving yourselves, as individuals, as music-makers, and as professionals. We want to see you join the club and build yourself into one of the music industry’s future leaders.

  • Making the Music: One of the most rewarding parts of working in the music industry is knowing that you’re helping artists within the industry reach their audience by working in live music, on their team, or in corporate careers.
